Missions Update: La Iglesia Greenspoint

September 10, 2025

In December 2024, we arrived at Greenspoint with hearts full of expectations, prayers, and a deep desire to see God move in this community. We didn't have all the answers (in fact, we didn't have any at all), nor a perfect plan, but we did have the conviction that God wanted to do something in Greenspoint. From that day until now, we have seen how He has opened doors, connected hearts, and keeps transforming lives.

Greenspoint is a place full of hardworking families, children who often spend most of their time on their own, and young people and teenagers searching for purpose. It is also a community that faces many challenges. And it is precisely in the midst of those challenges that we have seen God's hand bring hope and shine His light.

One of the most significant moments in this journey came in June, when we celebrated our first baptisms. Six people—four adults and two children—decided to take a step of faith and publicly declare their trust in Jesus. These were not people that usually attended church; in fact, some had never prayed or set foot inside a church before. But through their words and their tears, we understood something profound: God had already been at work in their hearts long before this church began. That day we celebrated much more than a symbolic act; we celebrated the beginning of new stories with Jesus, new families now walking in faith and hope.

This summer we also experienced another unforgettable moment when we organized our very own Back2School Bash. We wanted the children in the community to begin the school year with joy and with the assurance that God cares for them. We were able to provide around 100 backpacks filled with pencil cases, crayons, and school supplies. Children were playing everywhere, and smiles and words of gratitude filled the space. It reminded us that beyond the items we can give away, what we truly share is the love of Christ—a love expressed in tangible and simple ways.

Month after month, God has given us opportunities to connect with the people of Greenspoint through outreach events, conversations, home visits, and moments of prayer. Sometimes these are very simple encounters, but in every interaction we sense that God is writing His story in this community.

Throughout this process, we have sought to live out the mission that inspires us as a church: Love Jesus, Journey Together, Bring Hope to the World. We love Jesus because He is the one who called us to Greenspoint and who sustains every step we take. We journey together because we know life in community is God’s design and that no one is called to follow Christ alone. And we bring hope to the world—starting here, among ourselves, in our own neighborhood—because we have witnessed how a simple act of love can ignite faith in a weary heart.

In spite of our limitations, God always provides. La Iglesia Greenspoint has been very blessed by the generosity of WoodsEdge. We have seen His faithfulness in every step, from material resources to key people He has placed along the way.

We know we are still in the first chapters of this story, but each day we are more convinced that God has great plans for this place. We walk alongside a body that dreams the same dream as we do, and with every prayer and every step we take in Greenspoint, we are moving closer to the vision: to see Houston become a city of God.
